The Rector's Palace, in Dubrovnik, Croatia was built in the 1400s as a center for government administration. Successive renovations incorporated Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque features. It is now a museum.

Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey, has served as a cathedral (for Greek Orthodox, then Catholics), later, as a mosque during the Ottoman Empire, and then more recently, as a museum. In 2020 it was declared a mosque once again. Completed nearly 1,500 years ago, it once had the largest interior space of any structure and is still judged to be an outstanding example of Byzantine architecture.

On Mt. The Second Temple of Hera in Paestum, Italy was built around 560-550 BCE and is one of the best preserved early Greek temples. The town of Paestum was largely abandoned in the early Middle Ages and rediscovered in the 18th century around the time the Roman ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum were rediscovered.
